Warner Bros. confirmed on Monday that Anya Taylor-Joy has joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, the next theatrical entry in the Middle-earth franchise. The 30-year-old actress will play Seren, a Sindar Elf of the Woodland Realm described as “a trusted and lethal agent of King Thranduil,” according to Variety.infobae
The announcement came via Warner Bros.’ official social media channels, which posted a brief teaser showing Taylor-Joy in a darkened setting along with the message: “Welcome to the hunt, Anya Taylor-Joy”.excelsior
Seren is a character created specifically for the film and does not appear in J.R.R. Tolkien’s original writings. She serves Thranduil, the Elvenking of the Woodland Realm and father of Legolas, who will be portrayed once again by Lee Pace. The role had been the subject of rumor since March, when reports first surfaced that Taylor-Joy was in talks for the film’s female lead.upi
Taylor-Joy joins an ensemble that was officially unveiled at CinemaCon in April. Andy Serkis directs and reprises his motion-capture role as Gollum. Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf and Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins. Among the new additions, Jamie Dornan takes over the role of Strider — the younger Aragorn previously played by Viggo Mortensen — while Kate Winslet plays a character called Marigol and Leo Woodall portrays a Dúnedain ranger named Halvard.hypebeast
The screenplay is written by Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh, who penned the original trilogy, alongside Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. Peter Jackson produces.hypebeast
The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum is set to arrive exclusively in theaters on December 17, 2027. The film will explore the search for Gollum in the years preceding the events of The Fellowship of the Ring. Production began in New Zealand earlier this year.stern
