Elena Rybakina captured her second Porsche Tennis Grand Prix championship on Sunday, defeating Karolina Muchova 7-5, 6-1 in one hour and 18 minutes to collect her 13th career WTA singles title and her first-ever repeat crown at any tournament.wtatennis
The World No. 2 from Kazakhstan, seeded first in Stuttgart after Aryna Sabalenka withdrew due to injury, navigated a bumpy road to the final but finished the week in emphatic fashion. Her 2026 clay-court opener now doubles as her second title of the season, following her Australian Open triumph over Sabalenka in January.tennis
Rybakina raced to a 5-2 lead in the opening set before the seventh-seeded Muchova mounted a comeback, leveling the score at 5-5 and saving two set points as she pushed for a tiebreaker. But Rybakina converted a third set point to edge ahead, then seized control of the second set with a commanding 5-0 run. Muchova avoided a bagel by holding for 5-1, but Rybakina served out the match to love.tennis
“It was bound to happen eventually,” the WTA Tour noted of Rybakina’s first successful title defense, breaking a streak in which her first 12 career titles had each come at different tournaments.wtatennis
The victory caps an impressive stretch for Rybakina, who has won six of her last seven finals dating back to her first Stuttgart triumph in April 2024. She arrived at the WTA 500 event with consistent results throughout the season — a runner-up finish at the BNP Paribas Open and a semifinal showing at the Miami Open — but had been seeking a second trophy since Melbourne.tennis
Her path in Stuttgart included a grueling three-hour quarterfinal against Leylah Fernandez in which she saved two match points, followed by a straight-sets dismissal of No. 6 seed Mirra Andreeva, who had upset No. 3 seed Iga Swiatek in the previous round.wtatennis
For Muchova, currently ranked No. 12, the loss came despite a strong week in which she snapped losing streaks against both Coco Gauff and Elina Svitolina en route to the final. The Czech player is enjoying a breakout 2026 of her own, having captured her first WTA 1000 title at the Qatar TotalEnergies Open earlier this season. Rybakina, who famously won her first Stuttgart Porsche without a driver’s license in 2024, is now cleared to drive off with her second.wtatennis
