Netflix announced on Sunday that Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will meet in a professional rematch on Saturday, September 19, at Sphere in Las Vegas, streaming live globally to the platform’s more than 325 million subscribers at no additional cost. The bout marks the first professional boxing match to headline the immersive Las Vegas venue, more than 11 years after Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision in their 2015 “Fight of the Century.”fightsatw
“Floyd and I gave the world what remains the biggest fight in boxing history,” Pacquiao said in a press release. “The fans have waited long enough — they deserve this rematch, and it will be even bigger now that it will be streamed live globally on Netflix.” Mayweather’s response was characteristically blunt: “I already fought and beat Manny once. This time will be the same result.”martialbot
Mayweather, 48, holds a perfect 50-0 professional record with 27 knockouts. His last sanctioned bout came in August 2017, when he stopped Conor McGregor by TKO in the 10th round to push his record past Rocky Marciano’s legendary 49-0 mark. He has since competed only in exhibition fights, though the BBC reported last week that he plans to return to professional boxing following an upcoming exhibition against Mike Tyson in April.espn
Pacquiao, 47, boasts a record of 62-8-2 with 39 knockouts, according to Yahoo Sports, and remains the only fighter in history to win world titles in eight weight divisions. He has been more active in recent professional competition, with his most recent bout coming against Mario Barrios in July 2025.yahoo
Their original meeting on May 2, 2015, at the MGM Grand Garden Arena generated a record 4.6 million pay-per-view purchases, a live gate of $72 million, and over $600 million in total revenue, making it the richest fight in boxing history. Mayweather won by scores of 118-110, 116-112, and 116-112.bleacherreport
The announcement continues Netflix’s aggressive expansion into live combat sports. The platform drew 108 million live global viewers for the Jake Paul-Mike Tyson fight in November 2024 and has since streamed bouts featuring Katie Taylor, Amanda Serrano, Canelo Álvarez, and Terence Crawford. Just days before the Mayweather-Pacquiao announcement, Netflix revealed it would host Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano in a live MMA event on May 16 at the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, the platform’s first foray into professional mixed martial arts.nationaltoday
“Bringing this rematch to Netflix is a massive ‘full-circle’ moment,” said Gabe Spitzer, Netflix’s Vice President of Sports. “We’re thrilled to combine their storied rivalry with the immersive technology of Sphere to deliver a landmark sporting event to our members worldwide.”thesportingtribune
The Sphere, which opened in September 2023, previously hosted UFC 306 in September 2024 — the first live sporting event at the venue — drawing a sold-out crowd of 16,024 and a gate of $22 million. The Mayweather-Pacquiao rematch will be organized and produced by EverWonder Studio, Hidden Empire, and Limitless X Holdings, with promotion handled by Manny Pacquiao Promotions and Mayweather Promotions in partnership with CSI Sports/FIGHT SPORTS. Details on the undercard and ticket availability are expected in the coming weeks.netflix
