Sony and Marvel Studios released the first official trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day on Wednesday, March 18, drawing more than 500 million views in under 24 hours and shattering the previous record held by the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer. Tom Holland unveiled the full footage from atop the Empire State Building, lighting up the landmark in red and blue to mark what the studio called “a brand new day” for the franchise.twistedvoxel
The trailer picks up four years after the events of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, with Peter Parker now living in total isolation after erasing himself from the memories of everyone he loves. No longer recognized by friends MJ (Zendaya) or Ned (Jacob Batalon), Peter has thrown himself into full-time crime-fighting — but the toll is mounting. The footage reveals that his body is undergoing a startling physical evolution, with his DNA changing to produce organic webs rather than synthetic ones, drawing comparisons to Tobey Maguire’s earlier portrayal of the character.marvel
“The pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence,” according to the film’s official synopsis, “even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced”.youtube
The trailer introduces several characters new to Holland’s corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jon Bernthal reprises his role as Frank Castle, the Punisher, complete with the character’s iconic Battle Van from the comics, clashing with Spider-Man in an explosive armored car chase. Michael Mando returns as Mac Gargan — last glimpsed in a Homecoming post-credits scene — now fully suited up as the Scorpion. Mark Ruffalo appears as Bruce Banner, seemingly now a university professor, while Tramell Tillman plays a mysterious new figure whose allegiances remain unclear. Sadie Sink rounds out the cast in an undisclosed role that Marvel is keeping tightly under wraps, though the trailer hints at mind-control abilities.ew
Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to open exclusively in theaters on July 31, 2026. The film arrives just two weeks after Holland and Zendaya co-star in The Odyssey, and is positioned ahead of Avengers: Doomsday later in the year, setting the stage for the next phase of the MCU.people
