Oasis frontman Noel Gallagher will receive the Songwriter of the Year award at the 2026 BRIT Awards, organizers announced this week, honoring more than three decades of work that has shaped British popular music. The Manchester-born musician will accept the accolade at the ceremony on February 28 at Co-op Live—marking a homecoming for both Gallagher and the awards show itself.billboard
The recognition follows Oasis’s triumphant Live ’25 reunion tour, which saw Noel and his brother Liam perform together for the first time since their acrimonious 2009 split. The 41-date global tour sparked a resurgence in the band’s catalog, with Oasis becoming the only UK artist to sell more than one million albums in 2025.prsformusic
The 2026 ceremony marks the first time in nearly 50 years that the BRIT Awards will be held outside London. The event’s relocation to Gallagher’s hometown adds symbolic weight to the honor.billboard
“For more than three decades, Noel has crafted songs that have become part of our collective story—bold, brilliant, and always recognisable,” said Stacey Tang, Chair of the 2026 BRIT Awards Committee and Co-President of RCA Records at Sony Music UK. “His songs have soundtracked memories for multiple generations and defined the spirit of British music globally.”officialcharts
Gallagher is credited as the sole songwriter for Oasis’s first three albums—Definitely Maybe, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, and Be Here Now—which produced hits including “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” and “Champagne Supernova.” The award, determined by a panel of expert judges, follows previous recipients Charli XCX in 2025, RAYE in 2024, and Ed Sheeran.prsformusic
This year’s ceremony will also honor producer Mark Ronson with the Outstanding Contribution to Music award—the first time the accolade has been presented in seven years. Ronson, known for collaborations including “Uptown Funk” with Bruno Mars and Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black album, will perform at the event.billboard
The performance lineup includes Harry Styles in his first live appearance in nearly three years, along with Wolf Alice, Olivia Dean, and Rosalía. Jack Whitehall returns to host the ceremony, which will air live on ITV1 and ITVX.pollstar
