BLACKPINK superstar Lisa is expanding her acting career with a lead role in a new Netflix romantic comedy inspired by the 1999 classic Notting Hill, according to an exclusive report from Deadline.x
The 28-year-old Thai performer, fresh off her acclaimed acting debut in The White Lotus Season 3, will reunite with the HBO series’ executive producer David Bernad for the project. Screenwriter Katie Silberman, whose credits include Booksmart and Set It Up, has been tapped to write the script.x
The project reportedly emerged from a personal connection forged during The White Lotus production. According to Deadline, Bernad and Lisa developed the premise after bonding over their shared appreciation for Notting Hill on the set of the Emmy-winning series, which filmed across Thailand in 2024. Silberman, who received a BAFTA nomination for Best Original Screenplay for Booksmart, has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after comedy writers. Her Netflix film Set It Up became a streaming hit in 2018, while her 2022 psychological thriller Don’t Worry Darling, directed by Olivia Wilde, demonstrated her range beyond romantic comedies.wikipedia
Lisa made her acting debut as Mook, a health mentor for guests at the Thai White Lotus resort, in the show’s third season, which premiered on HBO on February 16, 2025. The eight-episode season concluded on April 6, 2025. At the Season 3 premiere, Lisa described her initial nervousness. “I was so nervous. I was sweating,” she told Variety. “I thought, ‘I can’t remember my lines.’ I completely blanked.”variety
Bernad, who earned an Emmy for his work on The White Lotus, has been a longtime producing partner of series creator Mike White. His other credits include the Amazon Freevee mockumentary Jury Duty and the HBO limited series White House Plumbers.imdb
The 1999 Notting Hill, directed by Roger Michell and written by Richard Curtis, starred Julia Roberts as a famous Hollywood actress who falls for an unassuming London bookshop owner played by Hugh Grant. The film remains a touchstone of the romantic comedy genre, exploring the complications of love between two people from vastly different worlds.rottentomatoes
For Lisa, the Netflix project represents another step in her transition from K-pop stardom to Hollywood acting. Born Lalisa Manoban in Thailand, she rose to global fame as the main dancer and lead rapper of BLACKPINK, one of the best-selling girl groups of all time. She previously told Variety she was interested in potentially starring in an action film in the future.wikipedia
