Amazon MGM Studios unveiled the second trailer for “Mercy” on December 9, featuring Chris Pratt facing off against an artificial intelligence judge in a race against time. The sci-fi thriller, set to arrive in theaters on January 23, 2026, marks a reunion between Pratt and director Timur Bekmambetov, who previously collaborated on the 2008 action film “Wanted”.katv
The film’s premise centers on Detective Christopher Raven, played by Pratt, who stands accused of murdering his wife and must prove his innocence within 90 minutes to an advanced AI judge portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson. Set in a near-future world where capital crime has increased, the story explores a justice system powered by artificial intelligence with access to every camera, cell phone, and database.ign
Bekmambetov, whose 2008 film “Wanted” grossed $342 million worldwide, brings his distinctive visual style to this AI-driven thriller. According to the director, Pratt delivers a performance unlike his previous work. “He plays a dark and very vulnerable character in a very dramatic story,” Bekmambetov told ComicBookMovie. The filmmaker noted that while Pratt is famous for action roles, this project sees him “literally in an electric chair for 90 minutes”.the-numbers
The cast includes Kali Reis as Raven’s partner, alongside Annabelle Wallis, Chris Sullivan, and Kylie Rogers. The film was written by Marco van Belle and produced by Oscar-nominated Charles Roven through his Atlas Entertainment, along with Robert Amidon, Bekmambetov, and Majd Nassif.ign
“Mercy” will be released exclusively in theaters, filmed for IMAX and available in 3D. The film carries a PG-13 rating for violence, bloody images, strong language, drug content, and teen smoking.katv
Bekmambetov described his approach to Pratt’s performance, saying “he’s still the person you can enjoy spending time with” nearly two decades after “Wanted,” though noting the actor now carries “a very different confidence” and feels “more responsible” due to his elevated status in Hollywood.people
The project represents Amazon MGM Studios’ continued commitment to theatrical releases, following other big-screen efforts like “The Beekeeper” and “Air”. For Pratt, the film arrives ahead of his return as Mario in “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie,” scheduled for April 3, 2026.deadline
