Amazon’s highly anticipated God of War live-action series is set to begin filming in March 2026 in Vancouver, marking a significant milestone for one of the streaming giant’s most ambitious video game adaptations. According to exclusive reporting from Nexus Point News, the production timeline puts the series back on track after a tumultuous development period that saw major creative changes in 2024.x
The series will be helmed by veteran television producer Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Battlestar Galactica and For All Mankind, who joined the project in October 2024 after the original creative team departed. Moore will serve as showrunner and executive producer for what Amazon has already greenlit as a two-season order.nerdist
The writers’ room for God of War features an impressive lineup of talent, including Matthew Graham (Electric Dreams), Stephanie Shannon (For All Mankind, Outlander), and Narendra K. Shankar (The Expanse, For All Mankind). Additional writers include Joe Menosky (Star Trek: Discovery), Marc D. Bernardin (The Continental), and Tania Lotia (The Witcher).soapcentral
Casting for the series is currently underway, though no names have been officially announced. The production is being handled by Amazon MGM Studios, Sony Pictures Television, PlayStation Productions, and Santa Monica Studio, the original game developer.gamingamigos
Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, Moore revealed that the series will adapt the 2018 God of War reboot, focusing on the Norse mythology storyline that follows Kratos and his son Atreus on their emotional journey to fulfill Kratos’ late wife’s final wish. “The tone of the show is trying to emulate the tone of the game,” Moore explained during his IGN interview.ign
This development comes as Amazon Prime Video continues to establish itself as a leader in video game adaptations. The success of Fallout in 2024, which earned multiple Emmy nominations, has positioned the platform as a premier destination for gaming properties. The company has also announced adaptations of Mass Effect and recently ordered a Life Is Strange series.thedirect
Moore praised the source material’s depth, particularly crediting game creative director Cory Barlog’s involvement. “Cory Barlog is a genius,” Moore said in a July interview. “He can tell you the whole thing in every possible way — all the mythology, how it connects one to the other”.collider
The March 2026 filming date represents the culmination of a project that has been in development since Amazon officially greenlit the adaptation in December 2022. With scripts still being finalized and casting decisions pending, fans can expect the series to premiere sometime in 2027 or later, depending on post-production requirements for the mythology-heavy, effects-intensive production.twistedvoxel
