Samsung Electronics has rolled out ChatGPT Enterprise and Codex across its global workforce, marking one of the largest enterprise AI deployments OpenAI has signed with any company worldwide. The announcement, made on June 22, covers all Samsung Electronics employees in South Korea and all staff in the company’s Device eXperience (DX) division globally.sedaily
The deployment represents a dramatic reversal for Samsung, which banned generative AI tools internally in 2023 after employees inadvertently leaked proprietary code through ChatGPT. The company began revising its stance in late 2025, when Samsung SDS signed a reseller partnership with OpenAI to facilitate ChatGPT Enterprise deployments — both for Samsung’s own employees and as the first Korean entity authorized to offer the service to outside businesses.valuethemarkets
Samsung employees will use ChatGPT Enterprise for knowledge-based tasks including information search and analysis, document drafting, idea development, and data interpretation, all within the company’s security policies and governance framework. Codex, OpenAI’s AI coding assistant, will allow both developers and non-technical staff to turn ideas into software, internal tools, websites, and automated workflows.sedaily
The ChatGPT Enterprise rollout is part of Samsung’s broader “AX” — AI transformation — initiative announced in early June. Rather than relying on a single provider, Samsung’s DX division began official operations of three external generative AI services on June 12: OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini Enterprise, and Anthropic’s Claude. The Device Solutions semiconductor division, which had been using Claude, opened access to ChatGPT on the same date, with Gemini scheduled for later this year.chosun
OpenAI noted that more than 5 million people now use Codex weekly across technical and non-technical roles, and that weekly active users of Codex in South Korea have surged nearly 800 percent since February 1, 2026.sedaily
The enterprise software deal builds on a strategic partnership announced in September 2025, when Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman signed a letter of intent covering advanced memory chip supply for OpenAI’s Stargate data center initiative. At that time, Samsung was already “exploring broader adoption of ChatGPT within the companies to facilitate AI transformation in the workplace.”chosun
