Kirvalidze had previously been in 7-day administrative detention, which was imposed on him by Judge Tornike Kochkiani at the June 24 hearing for insulting Bidzina Ivanishvili. According to civil activist Tamuna Giorgadze, Kirvalidze is being accused specifically of contempt of court. Civil.ge+4
Giorgi Kirvalidze was among more than 60 defendants in the October 4 case and initially had a plea agreement signed. However, in September, the Court of Appeals canceled the agreement on the grounds that the defendant did not sincerely admit to the crime and returned the case to the court of first instance. Kirvalidze's lawyer believes that the Prosecutor's Office requested the cancellation of the agreement due to the content of Kirvalidze's remark. Civil.ge+2
