Aleko Elisashvili’s lawyers appeal to the Prosecutor General

Aleko Elisashvili's lawyers have written to Prosecutor General Giorgi Gvarakidze and demanded that the imprisoned politician be given the opportunity to exercise the rights guaranteed to other prisoners. According to the lawyers, they have received a resolution by which Elisashvili continues to be restricted from the right to telephone communication and meetings with family members. Publika+2

The human rights defenders consider these restrictions illegal and groundless and state that they serve political persecution. Lawyer Giorgi Rekhviashvili states that the purpose of the restrictions is to punish Elisashvili for his political activities and that the factor of Mamuka Mdinaradze also figures in this case. The lawyers also point out that the equipment seized by the investigation a year ago, which belongs to Elisashvili's family members, has not been returned to this day. According to lawyer Archil Chopikashvili, the investigation determined that these items have no connection to the case under investigation, while according to Giorgi Rekhviashvili, a verdict has already been reached in the case and no additional examination of the equipment is necessary.
