Foreign citizen charged with smuggling firearms

According to the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia, an investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs established that a foreign citizen purchased 8 firearms abroad. The accused placed the weapons in a hidden compartment in a vehicle and brought them from the Republic of Turkey into Georgia on October 12, bypassing customs control. Imedi+2

According to the investigation, the purpose of bringing the weapons into Georgia was to illegally transport them to the Russian Federation. The weapons were seized at the Sarpi border checkpoint as a result of a search of the vehicle driven by the accused. Imedi+3

The detainee was charged under the third, fourth, and fifth parts of Article 236 of the Criminal Code of Georgia, as well as the fourth part of Article 214.
