Giorgi Gakharia’s lawyer speaks about using Bidzina Ivanishvili’s interview as evidence in the Chorchana case

A court hearing was held in the Tbilisi City Court regarding the so-called Chorchana case, where the parties examined video evidence. According to Giorgi Gakharia's lawyer, Berdia Sichinava, Bidzina Ivanishvili's October 2024 interview was presented at the trial, which, in the lawyer's assessment, confirms that political persecution is being carried out against Gakharia and his team. According to the lawyer's explanation, video footage reflecting the events that unfolded in Chorchana since 2019 and statements by various political officials, including Vakhtang Gomelauri, Tea Tsulukiani, and Anri Okhanashvili, were also examined in court. Berdia Sichinava claims that this evidence confirms the political motivation of the case, although he adds that the defense does not expect an objective verdict because, according to him, "Georgian Dream" controls the judiciary. The criminal case against the former Prime Minister and former Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Gakharia, was initiated under Article 333, Part 2, which implies abuse of official authority.
