Kakha Kaladze’s assessment of the ALDE initiative

Tbilisi Mayor and General Secretary of "Georgian Dream" Kakha Kaladze responded to the joint appeal of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and the European Liberal Forum. The mentioned appeal calls on the European Union to impose targeted sanctions on those individuals who are responsible for repressions and undermining democracy in Georgia. 1TV+5

According to Kakha Kaladze, the new package of sanctions will have "zero effect" and it "is worthless." He explained that such initiatives represent an unfair attitude towards specific countries and governments, the goal of which is to bring "agents" to power. 1TV+6

Kaladze noted that for the government, the main thing is to pursue a policy that will protect the interests of the Georgian people and the country. At the same time, according to Interpressnews, ALDE President Svenja Hahn and European Liberal Forum President Jan-Christoph Oetjen addressed a letter to high-ranking EU officials, in which they speak about the deterioration of the democratic situation in Georgia, including the decision of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation (FNF) to close its Tbilisi office. 1TV+4
