Interpressnews+1InterpressnewsInterpressnewsAt the ongoing process in the Constitutional Court regarding the banning of opposition parties, Berdia Sichinava, a representative of the party "For Georgia", delivered a closing statement. Sichinava called on the judges not to satisfy the constitutional lawsuit that requests for political parties to be declared unconstitutional and banned. Interpressnews+1
According to Sichinava's assessment, the mentioned lawsuit is unprepared, baseless in evidence, and represents an abuse of the "defensive democracy" concept by the authorities to destroy opposition parties. He assessed the process as historic and noted that such an issue has not been considered in an oral hearing since the creation of the Constitutional Court of Georgia. Interpressnews+2
In response to Sichinava's address, the chairman of the plenum, Revaz Nadaraia, stated that the court's decision, by which the party's motion regarding the postponement of the process was not satisfied, was correct. According to Nadaraia, the rights of the party were not violated because the representative appeared before the court prepared. Interpressnews
