Publika+2Publika+2Radio TavisuplebaThe Tbilisi Court of Appeals has begun hearing the case of those convicted in the October 4 case, including Mariam Mekantishvili. The Prosecutor's Office is requesting a harsher sentence for Mekantishvili because it believes that the 5,000 GEL fine imposed by the City Court is unjustified and does not correspond to the nature, severity, and public danger of the crime. According to prosecutor Tamar Iakobidze, the specificity of the actions and the convicted person's attitude toward the charges point to the need for a harsher sentence. Prosecutor Lasha Tskvitaria stated that a stricter punishment should be applied in the case. Additionally, the Prosecutor's Office confirmed that one of the convicts in the October 4 case has filed a motion to enter into a plea agreement, although no specific person was named. Publika+3
For their part, Mariam Mekantishvili's lawyers, Aihan Hasanli and Ani Beria, state that there is not enough evidence against her and that she is a victim of political persecution. The defense appealed the verdict to the Court of Appeals and requested Mekantishvili's acquittal. Lawyer Ana Beria also noted that Mekantishvili has never admitted guilt and does not consider herself guilty. Radio Tavisupleba
