Mark Ronson is set to reunite with director Greta Gerwig to compose the score for her highly anticipated Netflix adaptation of “Chronicles of Narnia,” according to confirmation from Variety. The collaboration marks the second time the Grammy and Oscar-winning producer has worked with Gerwig, following their successful partnership on the blockbuster “Barbie.”imdb
Sources close to the project confirm that Ronson is already working on the music for what is expected to be Gerwig’s follow-up to her $1.4 billion hit. The filmmaker is both writing and directing the fantasy adventure, which will reportedly adapt “The Magician’s Nephew,” the sixth published novel in C.S. Lewis’s beloved series.aol
The film is expected to feature an impressive ensemble cast, including Meryl Streep, who will reportedly voice the majestic lion Aslan. In an interesting personal connection, Streep is actually Ronson’s mother-in-law, as the musician is married to her daughter Grace Gummer. Daniel Craig is attached to play Uncle Andrew, with Emma Mackey officially cast as the White Witch and Carey Mulligan confirmed as Mabel Kirke.imdb
Principal photography began in August 2025 in London and at Shepperton Studios. Set photos reveal that Gerwig has made the creative decision to shift the story’s setting from the Victorian era of Lewis’s original novel to post-war 1950s London. The production has been filming elaborate period scenes with crowds of extras filling the streets, creating a lavish mid-20th century atmosphere.worldofreel
Ronson’s involvement stems from his successful collaboration with Gerwig on “Barbie,” where he served as executive music producer. For that project, he co-wrote and co-produced five songs, including the hit tracks “Dance the Night” and “I’m Just Ken,” while also co-composing the score with Andrew Wyatt. The music from “Barbie” garnered nominations at the Grammys, Golden Globes, and Academy Awards.imdb
Speaking about his initial “Barbie” collaboration in a 2023 interview with Variety, Ronson recalled: “It started off with me only doing two songs, but they came out well, and I got on really well with Greta. I think she felt like I’d be a good kind of sparring partner to help realize her vision for the music, and working on the soundtrack sort of blossomed into scoring the film as well”.narniaweb
Netflix has planned an ambitious theatrical rollout for the film. “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew” is scheduled to debut exclusively in IMAX theaters globally on November 26, 2026 (Thanksgiving Day), where it will screen for two weeks before making its streaming debut on Netflix on Christmas Day 2026. The film will play on approximately 1,000 IMAX screens worldwide.filmmusicreporter
The confirmation of Ronson’s involvement comes as he promotes his new memoir “Night People: How to Be a DJ in ’90s New York City,” which was released on September 16. Plan B, the production company co-founded by Brad Pitt, has already optioned the rights to adapt his memoir into a separate feature film.imdb
The pairing of Ronson and Gerwig for “Narnia” represents a creative risk, as producer Amy Pascal cryptically noted in December 2024 that the project would be “all about rock ‘n’ roll”. This comment has sparked speculation about how the duo will balance Lewis’s original Christian allegory with their distinctive modern sensibilities, following their successful reimagining of the “Barbie” brand.worldofreel
