Netflix Releases New Trailer for Wake Up Dead Man

Netflix unveiled a new official trailer on Sunday for “Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery,” the third installment in writer-director Rian Johnson’s detective franchise starring Daniel Craig as the Southern sleuth Benoit Blanc. The trailer showcases what appears to be Blanc’s most confounding case yet—a “perfectly impossible” murder at a small-town church.variety

The film follows Blanc as he investigates the death of Monsignor Jefferson Wicks, played by Josh Brolin, in what the detective describes as something “even I have not experienced”. He teams up with a young priest, Father Jud Duplenticy, portrayed by Josh O’Connor, who becomes the prime suspect after being “the only one on stage with the Monsignor at the time”. “Everyone thinks I did it. I didn’t do it,” Duplenticy insists in the trailer, his face marked with blood.youtube

Star-Studded Cast Tackles Religious Mystery

The ensemble cast includes Glenn Close as devout church lady Martha Delacroix, Mila Kunis as local police chief Geraldine Scott, and Jeremy Renner as town doctor Nat Sharp. Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church round out the suspects in what Johnson has called “the darkest chapter” of his murder mystery series.nerdist

“Wake Up Dead Man” premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2025 to enthusiastic reactions, with the film holding a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics praised O’Connor’s performance as scene-stealing and lauded Johnson for tackling themes of faith and belief while maintaining the franchise’s wit. The film marks Renner’s first major production since his near-fatal snowplow accident in January 2023.wikipedia

The film will open in select theaters on November 26 before streaming globally on Netflix starting December 12. Netflix acquired the rights to two “Knives Out” sequels in 2021 for approximately $469 million, with the first sequel, “Glass Onion,” becoming one of the streamer’s most-watched films with 136 million views in its first 91 days. The original “Knives Out” earned $312.9 million worldwide on a $40 million budget in 2019.variety
