Nvidia Powers Over 80% of World’s Fastest Supercomputers as New TOP500 List Debuts at ISC 2026

The 67th edition of the TOP500 list, unveiled at the ISC High Performance 2026 conference in Hamburg, Germany, on Sunday, cements Nvidia’s dominance in supercomputing. The company’s technologies now power more than 400 of the world’s 500 fastest supercomputers — representing roughly 81% of the list — up from 388 systems, or 78%, on the November 2025 list. More than 90% of newly ranked systems chose Nvidia technology, and the company’s Arm-based Grace CPU saw adoption climb to 26 systems, a 44% increase from the prior list.exproglobal-europe

The new rankings also brought a surprise at the top: LineShine, a previously unlisted system installed in China, debuted at No. 1, displacing the U.S. Department of Energy’s El Capitan as the world’s most powerful supercomputer on the High Performance Linpack benchmark.hpsf

Europe’s Largest Supercomputing Expansion

Separately, Nvidia announced at ISC 2026 that a record 35 AI supercomputers are under development across 23 European countries, equipping more than 3 million researchers with next-generation infrastructure. The systems deliver approximately 800 AI exaflops of capacity and represent Europe’s largest one-year expansion of supercomputers.stocktitan

“AI is the new instrument of science, and Europe is building the infrastructure to put it in the hands of millions of researchers,” said Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s founder and CEO.globenewswire

Key installations include the Barcelona Supercomputing Center’s MareNostrum5 AI upgrade, which will deliver roughly 20 exaflops of AI training performance; IT4LIA, featuring more than 8,000 GPUs; BavariaAI’s Blue Swan in Germany; and NAISS’s Mimer EuroHPC AI Factory in Sweden. The systems are built on Nvidia’s Blackwell and Hopper platforms, with the forthcoming Vera Rubin architecture also entering deployment at multiple sites.nvidia

A Widening Lead in HPC

Nvidia’s march through the TOP500 has been relentless. The company powered 77% of the list at ISC 2025, when 381 systems used its accelerators or networking. A year earlier, at ISC 2024, 89% of new accelerated machines on the list used Nvidia GPUs. The November 2024 list counted 384 Nvidia-powered systems, with 87% of new entrants choosing its Hopper GPUs.nvidia

The growing adoption of the Grace CPU — from just seven systems in mid-2024 to 26 on the latest list — reflects Nvidia’s push beyond accelerators into full-system design. Nvidia also dominates the Green500 energy-efficiency rankings, where Grace Hopper-powered systems have consistently held top positions.nvidia

With the ISC 2026 conference running through June 26, Nvidia also used the event to launch the Vera Rubin platform, which packs more than seven exaflops of AI performance and five petaflops of native FP64 into a single rack — effectively delivering TOP500-level supercomputing per rack.networkworld
