Sophie Turner has been photographed for the first time on the set of Amazon Prime Video’s Tomb Raider series, giving fans their first glimpse of the actress in action as the iconic adventurer Lara Croft.
The images, which surfaced on February 6, show the Game of Thrones star performing her own stunts in rain-soaked woodlands near Surrey, England, including being hoisted into the air and parachuting over a lake. Turner was seen running between takes, sporting a practical reimagining of Croft’s costume: grey cargo trousers, a ribbed brown top, and a navy tactical vest, complete with dual thigh holsters for her signature pistols and the character’s trademark braided hairstyle.comingsoon
The 29-year-old actress has undergone an intense physical transformation for the role. During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s “The Julia Cunningham Show,” Turner revealed she has been training “eight hours a day, five days a week” since February 2025.foxnews
“I’ve learned I have a perpetual back problem, but I also realized that it’s much easier to kind of build muscle if you’ve ever worked out before in your life, which I never had, so it has taken me months and months and months to get into good shape,” Turner admitted.nerdist
Unlike her time on Game of Thrones, where she portrayed Sansa Stark, Turner noted that her previous role didn’t require this level of physical preparation. “I was the cool queen who, like, didn’t have to do that. I also just kind of was the one that got beat up, not the one doing the beating,” she said. “So, it’s quite nice to learn how to throw a punch and not just take it.”foxnews
Turner leads an ensemble cast that includes Sigourney Weaver as Evelyn Wallis, a mysterious figure keen to exploit Lara’s talents; Jason Isaacs as Lara’s uncle Atlas DeMornay; Bill Paterson as Winston, the Croft family butler; and Martin Bobb-Semple as Zip, Lara’s tech-support friend.superherohype
The series is created, written, and executive produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for Fleabag, who serves as co-showrunner alongside Chad Hodge. Jonathan Van Tulleken, who directed episodes of FX’s Shogun, is directing and executive producing.variety
Principal photography commenced on January 15 at Shepperton Studios in Surrey. Amazon MGM Studios and Crystal Dynamics are producing the series, which aims to “reinvent the franchise on a massive scale” and interconnect “live-action television series and video games into a unified storytelling universe.”ign
Turner becomes the third actress to portray Croft in a live-action adaptation, following Angelina Jolie in two films released in 2001 and 2003, and Alicia Vikander in the 2018 reboot. No release date has been announced.
