Apple is developing a second-generation iPhone Air, internally codenamed V62, that will add a second rear camera and ship in spring 2027, according to reporting from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and The Information. The device is currently in advanced development as Apple reshapes its iPhone release calendar around a split-season strategy.
The next iPhone Air is expected to address the most common criticisms of the first model, which launched in September 2025 as Apple’s thinnest-ever iPhone at 5.6mm. That device shipped with a single rear camera and relatively modest battery life — trade-offs that contributed to underwhelming sales and production cutbacks by assemblers Foxconn and Luxshare late last year.yahoo
Current plans call for the V62 to feature dual rear cameras, adding a 48-megapixel ultrawide-angle lens alongside the existing 48-megapixel main sensor. The device is also expected to gain a larger battery, Apple’s A20 Pro chip built on a 2-nanometer process, and a vapor chamber cooling system carried over from the iPhone 17 Pro line.reddit
The iPhone Air 2 is part of a broader restructuring of Apple’s annual iPhone cadence. Rather than debuting its full lineup each September, the company plans to reserve the fall 2026 window for its premium iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and its first foldable iPhone. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and the refreshed iPhone Air will follow in spring 2027 — likely in March.macrumors
Gurman has said the iPhone Air 2 was “never intended for a 2026 release,” despite earlier reports from The Information in November 2025 characterizing the timeline shift as a delay caused by weak first-generation sales.macrumors
The spring launch is just one piece of a packed 2027 product roadmap. Bloomberg reported on Tuesday that Apple also plans to release camera-equipped AirPods, a second-generation foldable iPhone, and a 20th-anniversary iPhone model later that year. Gurman expects the anniversary device to feature a curved glass screen with a front camera hidden beneath the display.macrumors
