ElevenLabs Launches Music v2 with Mid-Track Genre Switching

ElevenLabs released Music v2 on Tuesday, a new music generation model that can shift between genres within a single track while maintaining musical coherence — a capability the company says was not possible with its previous model.

New Capabilities

According to ElevenLabs’ announcement, a single song generated by Music v2 can “move from opera to heavy metal and back, sustain fast rap and dense lyrical delivery, and embed non-musical sound effects directly within the track, all without breaking musical coherence.” The release comes nearly ten months after ElevenLabs first entered the music generation space in August 2025 with licensing deals from Merlin and Kobalt.musicbusinessworldwide

The model introduces improved inpainting, allowing users to select any section of a track and regenerate just that part using prompts — tweaking a bridge without altering the chorus. Artists can also build songs section by section, constructing intros, verses, and choruses individually before stitching them into a complete composition. ElevenLabs says the model also performs more reliably across multiple languages for lyrics and vocals.mezha

Platforms and Pricing

Music v2 powers three ElevenLabs platforms: ElevenMusic for listening, remixing, and creating tracks; ElevenCreative for branded content and advertising teams; and ElevenAPI for developers, which is coming soon. Alongside the launch, the company cut pricing by up to 50% for API users and up to 40% for ElevenCreative self-serve customers.elevenlabs

ElevenMusic, which launched in late April as a broader platform for music discovery and fan engagement, already hosts over 4,000 independent artists. The company has paid out more than $11 million to creators through its voice library and is extending a similar monetization model to music.elevenlabs

Licensing and Industry Context

ElevenLabs emphasized that Music v2 is “trained only on licensed data and cleared for commercial use,” meaning every generated track can be used without sync fees or clearance delays. The company cited recent licensing collaborations with Believe as part of broader industry alignment around rights-respecting AI music development. This positions ElevenLabs against competitors like Suno and Udio, which have faced copyright lawsuits from major record labels over their training data practices.elevenlabs
