Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo erupted for 83 points on Tuesday night, carrying his team to a 150-129 victory over the Washington Wizards at Kaseya Center in what became the second-highest individual scoring performance in NBA history. Only Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary 100-point game in 1962 now stands above Adebayo’s output, which surpassed Kobe Bryant’s 81-point performance from 2006.wsls
Adebayo was unstoppable from the opening tip. He poured in 31 points in the first quarter alone — a new franchise record for any quarter — and had 43 by halftime, a total that would stand as a career night for most players. His previous career high had been just 41 points. By the end of the third quarter, he had 62, surpassing both Denver’s Nikola Jokic’s season-high of 56 points and LeBron James’ Heat franchise record of 61, set against Charlotte on March 3, 2014.yahoo
Adebayo finished the night shooting 20 for 43 from the field, 7 for 22 from three-point range, and a staggering 36 for 43 from the free-throw line. Both his free throw makes and attempts set NBA single-game records, eclipsing Dwight Howard’s mark of 39 attempts and the 28 makes shared by Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley. With about two minutes remaining and the game well in hand, Adebayo surpassed Bryant’s 81, and head coach Erik Spoelstra pulled him after he reached 83.bostonglobe
The performance came on a night when Miami was missing four rotation players: Norman Powell (groin), Tyler Herro (quadriceps), Nikola Jovic (back), and Andrew Wiggins (toe). Simone Fontecchio was the only other Heat player to score in double figures with 18 points. Washington, playing without Trae Young due to right knee injury management, got 28 points from Alex Sarr, 22 from Will Riley, and 17 from Jaden Hardy.wsls
The win extended Miami’s streak to six straight and pushed the Heat to 37-29, a season-best eight games over .500. For Adebayo, who just days earlier became only the second player in franchise history alongside Dwyane Wade to score 10,000 career points with the Heat, the 83-point explosion marked the 16th time in NBA history a player has reached 70 points in a single game and the first since Luka Dončić did so in 2024. Adebayo now holds the highest single-game total by any active NBA player.wtop
