Disney, New York Times and Adobe Join New AI Content Coalition ARIAM

Former Netflix and Warner Bros. executive Victoria Furniss has launched the Alliance for Responsible Innovation in the Arts & Media (ARIAM), a new coalition aimed at shaping how artificial intelligence is developed and deployed across the creative industries. Disney, The New York Times, and Adobe are among the organization’s founding members, according to Variety.variety

A Cross-Industry Alliance

ARIAM brings together leaders from entertainment, publishing, music, news, academia, gaming, and other content-driven sectors to address shared challenges posed by rapid advances in AI. Cambridge University Press & Assessment is also among the first organizations to join the coalition.cambridge

The group’s stated mission is “to ensure that artificial intelligence is developed and deployed in ways that protects consumers, respects intellectual property, and sustains the global creative economy”. Furniss’s Path to ARIAM

Furniss previously co-founded the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment during her time at Netflix. In July 2025, she launched AiPhelion, a consulting firm focused on navigating intellectual property issues in the age of AI, alongside co-founders with backgrounds at Disney, Warner Bros., and NBCUniversal. A Crowded Field of AI Coalitions

The launch comes as the media industry grapples with the implications of generative AI on intellectual property and creative labor. Earlier in June, some 30 European and North American media outlets joined the SPUR Coalition, co-founded by the BBC, the Financial Times, and Guardian Media Group, which focuses on securing fair payment for news content used by AI systems. Meanwhile, major entertainment companies including Disney have pursued both litigation and partnerships with AI firms to protect their intellectual property while exploring the technology’s commercial potential.bssnews
