Art Basel Hong Kong returns to the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from March 27 to 29, bringing together 240 galleries from 41 countries and territories as the city gears up for its busiest week on the international art calendar. This year’s edition introduces new curatorial sectors and digital initiatives while a growing network of satellite events offers alternative models for viewing and collecting art.artbasel
The most notable addition is Echoes, a brand-new sector dedicated to works created within the past five years, presented across ten curated booths featuring up to three artists each. Angelle Siyang-Le, director of Art Basel Hong Kong, has described Echoes as “an important platform to highlight mid-career artists — an area of real market need,” noting that these artists “are often producing some of their most rigorous and ambitious work, yet they can be under-recognized in global programming”.artasiapacific
Highlights in Echoes include Madrid’s Max Estrella gallery presenting Tiffany Chung’s embroidered maps of spice routes alongside Miler Lagos’s carved book sculptures, and Hong Kong’s Double Q Gallery showing an immersive installation by Polish artist Natalia Załuska.artbasel
Zero 10, Art Basel’s global initiative for digital-era art, makes its Asia debut after launching at Art Basel Miami Beach. Curated by Eli Scheinman, the program brings together 14 exhibitors spanning generative systems, AI-driven works, robotics, and blockchain-based art. Among the participants is BottoDAO, one of the first decentralized autonomous organizations to formally exhibit at a major art fair. Samsung Electronics, Art Basel’s official display partner, has also launched an Art Basel Hong Kong 2026 collection on the Samsung Art Store, featuring 25 works by participating artists and galleries, viewable on its latest display lineup.flaunt
Beyond the convention center, PAVILION Hong Kong — a new satellite fair founded by Willem Molesworth and Ysabelle Cheung of PHD Group — is running from March 23 to 28 across two floors of H Queen’s in Central, presenting 25 galleries in a booth-free format. The concept, which evolved from the pair’s earlier Supper Club events, prioritizes intimate encounters over commercial intensity. “What people are actually looking for are different experiences,” Cheung told Artnet News. “We present an alternative experience”.zolimacitymag
The fair’s broader public program includes the M+ Facade commission of Shahzia Sikander’s animated work “3 to 12 Nautical Miles,” mapping historic trade routes across Victoria Harbour, and Tai Kwun’s Artists’ Night on March 27 featuring live performances and experimental installations. Preview days for invited guests begin on March 25.artbasel
