Anthropic Expands Mythos AI Model Access to 150 New Organizations Amid IPO Push

Anthropic on Tuesday extended access to its closely guarded Claude Mythos AI model to approximately 150 additional organizations across more than 15 countries, broadening a cybersecurity initiative that has drawn both praise and controversy since its debut in April.cybersecuritydive

Widening the Net

The expansion of Project Glasswing, as the program is known, brings the total number of organizations with access to Mythos to nearly 200. The newly added partners span critical infrastructure sectors including energy, water, healthcare, telecommunications, and hardware manufacturing — industries that Anthropic said were “not well-represented” in the initial cohort.yahoo

“Following several weeks of close collaboration with our Project Glasswing partners, the security industry, open-source software maintainers, and the U.S. government, we’re extending the partnership to approximately 150 new organizations,” the company said in a statement. New participants must meet security requirements before gaining access.cnbc

Anthropic first unveiled Mythos in April as a model so capable at identifying software vulnerabilities that it deemed the system too powerful for public release. The model reportedly discovered thousands of zero-day vulnerabilities, including one in OpenBSD that had gone undetected for 27 years. The initial preview was restricted to roughly 50 organizations, including Amazon, Apple, Microsoft, and CrowdStrike.techcrunch

The EU’s cybersecurity agency, ENISA, is also set to join the program, marking the first EU body to gain access, according to Bloomberg reporting.bloomberg

IPO Ambitions

The Mythos expansion coincides with a pivotal corporate milestone. On Monday, Anthropic announced it had confidentially filed a draft registration statement with the Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering. The company, valued at close to $965 billion following its latest funding round, said the offering would depend on “market conditions and other factors”.techcrunch

The filing places Anthropic ahead of rival OpenAI in the race to go public, with both companies potentially listing as early as this fall. Anthropic joins SpaceX among major tech firms expected to debut on public markets this year.nytimes

Lingering Concerns

The expansion has not been without friction. In late April, the White House opposed an earlier plan by Anthropic to widen Mythos access to about 70 additional organizations, citing security concerns and questions about whether the company had sufficient computing resources to support more users. How those objections were resolved ahead of Tuesday’s larger rollout remains unclear.wsj
