Nvidia and SK Hynix Sign Multiyear AI Memory Partnership

Nvidia and SK Hynix on Sunday announced a multiyear technology partnership to co-develop next-generation memory for AI infrastructure, deepening a collaboration that underpins some of the world’s most advanced computing platforms.

A Deal Spanning AI Factories to Robotics

The agreement, unveiled in Seoul, aligns SK Hynix’s memory roadmap with Nvidia’s expanding AI infrastructure portfolio — covering Vera Rubin AI supercomputers, Vera CPUs, RTX Spark-powered personal computers, and Jetson Thor robotic computing platforms. The partnership addresses the extended development cycles and capital investments required to sustain the global buildout of AI data centers, according to the companies’ joint press release.quiverquant

“AI factories are the engines of the next industrial revolution, and advanced memory is essential to their performance,” Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said in the announcement. “SK hynix has been an extraordinary partner to NVIDIA, playing a central role in delivering advanced memory technologies for NVIDIA AI computing platforms.”quiverquant

SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won called the deal a reflection of years of deepening collaboration. “Together, we are codeveloping the next generation of memory for AI factories and applying AI to how we design and manufacture semiconductors,” Chey said.quiverquant

Memory Shortage Warning and Seoul Meetings

The announcement followed a series of meetings between Huang and Chey in Seoul, including a gathering over fried chicken at a Gangnam restaurant. During a media appearance, Huang warned that the global memory shortage is expected to persist for years. “The entire industry supply chain — everything from wafers to packaging to silicon photonics — everything’s in short supply because the demand is so high,” he said. “It is going to persist for several years.”ajupress

CNBC reported that SK Hynix confirmed the two executives would brief media together on the partnership Monday morning Seoul time.cnbc

AI-Driven Chip Design and Autonomous Fabs

Beyond memory supply, the partnership expands into AI-accelerated semiconductor design and manufacturing. SK Hynix will use Nvidia’s CUDA-X libraries and PhysicsNeMo framework to speed semiconductor simulations, computational lithography, and in-house engineering codes. The companies are also building factory digital twins using Nvidia Omniverse and OpenUSD pipelines, aiming to enable fully autonomous fab operations through AI-driven optimization.chosun

SK Hynix has previously said it targets an autonomous semiconductor fab by 2030, and the new partnership provides the software foundation to pursue that goal.chosun
