Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa told Italian lawmakers on Tuesday that the automaker is negotiating with two potential partners for its struggling luxury brand Maserati, as the company seeks to revive sales and boost production at underutilized Italian plants.
Speaking during a parliamentary hearing in Rome on Wednesday, Filosa said he is negotiating on behalf of Maserati “with two significant partners that can provide us with technology, development, and innovative concepts,” and that the company is in the process of selecting which partner to pursue, according to Reuters. A decision is expected soon.reuters
Filosa emphasized that all new partnerships Stellantis pursues will follow a structure in which the automaker retains a 51% ownership stake, consistent with existing agreements with Chinese firms Leapmotor and Dongfeng. He said a new Maserati partnership would positively influence production at the Cassino and Modena facilities in Italy where the brand’s vehicles are manufactured.yahoo
The CEO used the occasion to quash persistent rumors about a potential sale of the brand, including recent reports of interest from China’s BYD. “Maserati is definitely not for sale, and neither is Cassino,” Filosa stated, according to Reuters. “What can occur at Cassino, similar to other plants, is the establishment of partnerships for collaboration and development.”reuters
The sale speculation has dogged Stellantis for over a year. In June 2025, Reuters reported that the company was weighing a possible divestiture of Maserati among other options, with McKinsey brought in to evaluate scenarios. Maserati’s sales fell 57% in 2024 and dropped a further 30% from 2024 to 2025.reuters
Maserati is set to unveil its own strategic roadmap at a dedicated event in December, Filosa said. Last month, he presented Stellantis’s €60 billion business plan extending to 2030, which includes the launch of 60 new models worldwide.yahoo
Beyond Maserati, Filosa revealed plans to manufacture affordable electric vehicles priced around €15,000 at the company’s Pomigliano plant near Naples, also through a partnership that is being finalized. The manufacturing deals are part of Stellantis’s broader goal of raising European capacity utilization from its current 60% to above 80% by 2030.reuters
