Apple used the opening day of its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday to announce a suite of new App Store capabilities aimed at helping developers grow subscription businesses, including group purchases, cross-developer bundles, and enterprise volume buying — changes that subscription infrastructure companies are calling a turning point for app monetization.
The centerpiece of the App Store updates is a set of StoreKit 2-powered features that allow developers to offer subscriptions beyond individual consumers for the first time through Apple’s own purchase system. Volume purchasing through Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager will let enterprise and education buyers procure subscriptions at scale using existing device management workflows, arriving this fall. Group purchases, coming this winter, will let a single subscriber buy multiple seats and invite others to join.appleinsider
Apple is also introducing App Store Bundles, which allow multiple developers to partner together and offer joint subscription packages at a discounted rate — a first for the platform. A new Retention Messaging feature will let developers present tailored offers or communications when a user attempts to cancel, aiming to reduce churn.apple
RevenueCat, the subscription management platform used by thousands of app developers, organized a live analysis session focused on the monetization implications of the WWDC announcements. The company, which publishes an annual State of Subscription Apps report drawing on what it calls the world’s largest subscription app dataset, framed the changes as relevant to how developers build and retain paying users at scale.revenuecat
The announcements build on moves Apple made earlier this year, including an April introduction of monthly-billed subscriptions with 12-month commitments, which gave developers a new way to offer lower pricing in exchange for predictable revenue. Apple also disclosed last week that the App Store ecosystem facilitated over $1.4 trillion in developer billings and sales in 2025.apple
Beyond subscription mechanics, Apple introduced Creative Assets for richer App Store listings, Personalized Collections powered by user behavior, and a streamlined App Review process that allows multiple in-app purchases to be submitted in a single package. These tools, rolling out throughout 2026, give developers more control over how their apps appear in search results and product pages without requiring a full app update.gadgets360
