OpenAI announced on Monday that it will bring Codex functionality into the ChatGPT app “everywhere” within the next few weeks, alongside six new business-focused plugins designed to extend the AI tool’s reach beyond software development and into sales, finance, design, and marketing workflows.
The announcements came during an OpenAI livestream called “Intelligence at Work” on June 2. Rather than a full merger of the two products, the move will integrate Codex’s agent capabilities into the ChatGPT interface, aiming to help business users who already know ChatGPT understand when and how to use Codex.openai
“Codex started as a tool for software development, but it’s increasingly useful for more kinds of work,” OpenAI wrote in a blog post, noting that more than 5 million people now use Codex weekly. Non-developers — including analysts, marketers, designers, and investors — account for about 20% of Codex users and are growing more than three times as fast as developers.openai
The six new plugins each bundle integrations with popular enterprise tools. The sales plugin connects with Salesforce, HubSpot, Slack, and others to help teams prepare for meetings and track deals. The data analytics plugin integrates with Snowflake, Databricks, Hex, and Tableau. The creative production plugin works with Figma, Canva, and Shutterstock. A product design plugin also ties into Figma and Canva.9to5mac
Two finance-oriented plugins round out the set. The public equity investing plugin draws on data from Moody’s, FactSet, S&P, LSEG, and PitchBook, while the investment banking plugin focuses on pitch materials and comparable company analysis. OpenAI said additional plugins for corporate finance, private equity, marketing strategy, consulting, and legal are coming soon.openai
OpenAI also previewed two additional features for business and enterprise customers. Sites lets users create interactive, hosted websites and apps — such as dashboards, project boards, or scenario planners — that can be shared within a workspace via URL. The annotations tool, previously available to developers for refining code, now extends to documents, spreadsheets, and slides, letting users highlight specific elements and request targeted edits without reworking an entire file.openai
The plugins are rolling out through the Codex plugin directory in supported regions, while Sites is available in preview for Business and Enterprise teams.openai
