Roche and Nurix Therapeutics announced on Monday an exclusive global licensing and collaboration agreement to co-develop and co-commercialize bexobrutideg, an oral BTK degrader targeting blood cancers, multiple sclerosis, and chronic spontaneous urticaria, in a deal valued at up to $2.3 billion.businessinsider
Under the terms, Nurix will receive an upfront cash payment of $700 million and is eligible for development, regulatory, and sales milestones bringing the potential total to $2.3 billion. Development costs will be shared 60% by Roche and 40% by Nurix, with U.S. profits and losses split equally. Outside the United States, Roche will handle commercialization, paying Nurix royalties ranging from the low- to high-teens.roche
Bexobrutideg, also known as NX-5948, is an investigational oral, brain-penetrant small molecule that differs from conventional BTK inhibitors. Rather than merely blocking BTK kinase activity, it harnesses the body’s ubiquitin-proteasome pathway to selectively eliminate the BTK protein from cells entirely, removing both its kinase activity and scaffolding function. This mechanism has the potential to overcome resistance mutations that limit current standard-of-care treatments for patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other B-cell malignancies.roche
“We believe bexobrutideg could represent a major leap forward in the fight against complex blood cancers and other diseases,” said Levi Garraway, Roche’s chief medical officer and head of global product development.roche
Phase 3 clinical trials are planned for initiation this summer for the second-line treatment of CLL. Nurix had previously outlined plans to begin a global randomized confirmatory Phase 3 trial by midyear 2026.nurixtx
The combined non-Hodgkin lymphoma and CLL market is projected to reach $41 billion by 2031, with BTK inhibitors expected to remain the leading drug class at approximately $19 billion, according to Roche’s press release citing Clarivate data.roche
Arthur T. Sands, president and chief executive of Nurix, called Roche “the ideal partner to help translate the promise of targeted protein degradation into meaningful impact for patients worldwide,” noting that the collaboration would enable exploration of combination regimens with Roche’s existing B-cell malignancy portfolio.roche
The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including expiration or termination of the waiting period under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act, with both parties expecting the deal to close in the third quarter of 2026.businessinsider
